Volunteer
Our organization could not exist without the commitment of time and energy from volunteers like you. You can share your talents and interests with others through various volunteer opportunities through the Winona Outdoor Collaborative. Whether you have a limited amount of time and want to help at a one-time event, or you are looking to establish long-term relationships through regular volunteer work, this is a fantastic way to give back to the community!

We accept volunteers from many different backgrounds for a variety of tasks. Most of our volunteers are adults (18+), but we'd still love to hear from you if you don’t fit that age range. We especially want you to know that your interests don’t have to align with outdoor recreation specifically. It takes the skills of many to keep a business afloat! Maybe you’re a community member looking for a way to give back. Great! Or maybe you’re a college student looking to complete an internship or practicum. That’s lovely, too. Fill out our volunteer interest form and a team member will reach out to you for more information!

A few different ways that folks have volunteered include assisting with events, administrative tasks, and sitting on our board of directors.
Event Volunteers support the local events that we offer the Winona community. Hosting an event requires many hands, and we’d love your support! Some tasks you may complete as an event volunteer are welcoming the public, sharing information about the WOC, helping folks sign waivers, and setting people up with harnesses, helmets, or life jackets.
Administrative Volunteers support the inner workings of our organization by completing tasks behind the scenes to help carry out our mission and vision. This may include data collection and analysis, assisting with grant applications, supporting policy development, building curriculums, etc.
Board Volunteers require more of a time commitment than the examples listed above. Scroll down on the page to learn more.

At the WOC, we always have something happening and we would love your help. You can volunteer as frequently as you’d like. Once you fill out the volunteer interest form, we'll add you to our contact list and send out volunteer opportunities that way!
Join the Board
Joining our Board of Directors is a great way to do your part by supporting a more inclusive outdoor recreation community in Winona. We have a very small team of paid staff and rely heavily on our board to help shape and grow the organization's direction. Please take a moment to read the information below about how our board operates.
-
Commit to and support the Winona Outdoor Collaborative’s mission, provide governance & oversight support to the WOC, represent the organization in the community, and accept the ultimate legal authority for the organization (meaning, for a nonprofit, the board is similar to a business owner).
Regularly attend board meetings.
Participate in discussion and decision-making related to oversight of the WOC.
Participate in one committee and one strategic planning initiative.
Participate in fundraising efforts that allow the WOC to facilitate programs and initiatives.

Candidates for the Winona Outdoor Collaborative will need to submit an online application. When the application has been received, a meeting will be arranged so the Candidate can learn more about the position and ask any relevant questions. Lastly, the Candidate will attend a board meeting to determine if this is the right opportunity.
Once these steps have been completed, the current Board of Directors will review application materials and conduct an official vote at the next monthly Board Meeting. In order to be approved as a Board Member for the Winona Outdoor Collaborative, the candidate must receive a minimum of 50% approval. If the application is accepted, the candidate must participate in an orientation session that lasts approximately 1 hour.
